Nursing Science

The nursing science doctoral programme, with a designated focus on gerontology, gives doctoral students an opportunity to reinforce and deepen their research work in nursing education, care management, advanced nursing practice, demographic developments, age and ageing.

Points of departure can be found in the research areas of the Department for Nursing Science and Gerontology: population ageing and individual ageing processes; gerontological health, nursing and care; nursing intervention and nursing quality; innovative care concepts; palliative care and hospice services; ethical issues in health and nursing care.

A doctoral degree in nursing science enables graduates to independently formulate questions and hypotheses in gerontological nursing care; to select and combine qualitative and quantitative methods; to design and conduct research projects; and to provide decision makers with expert advice. The doctoral programme also allows graduates to qualify for leading positions in public and private healthcare facilities or organizations.
