The rising demand for engineering solutions in all areas of technology, especially in the mechatronics arena, often require new strategies and a high degree of methodological and theoretical integration of previously separate disciplines.

To reach these goals, the Technical Sciences doctoral programme will help students to reinforce and enhance the knowledge acquired in a similar Master programme through the independent scholarly examination of a scientific issue according to the latest research standards. They will acquire the skills to design and conduct research independently, prepare original contributions to research issues in the technical sciences, publish their research results in international journals, and present and defend their work at national and international conferences.

An important aspect of the programme is the thesis write-up, which serves as proof of the student’s ability to solve a scientific problem in the technical sciences expertly, independently, correctly and in a methodologically sound manner.

The doctoral programme in Technical Sciences is intended primarily for graduates of a Master programme in mechatronics or biomedical computer science. It qualifies the graduate to solve complex issues in fundamental and applied research within the engineering sciences in keeping with recognized scientific standards.

As part of the doctoral programme, the students will be integrated into ongoing research projects at the Department for Biomedical Computer Science & Mechatronics.

Separate degree regulations apply to this doctoral programme. This degree is only possible through full-time study. Graduates complete the programme with the academic degree of a “Dr.techn.”
