Aim of the study program
The Bachelor and Master programs in Psychology qualify graduates for occupations in psychology and related areas. They include scientific as well practical training.
Content of study programs
Our Bachelor and Master programs follow the recommendations of the German Society for Psychology (DGPs) and the European Federation of Psychologists Associations. They include three mandatory areas of applied psychology. These are:
- Clinical Child Psychology and Psychotherapy. The Tyrolean Private University UMIT TIROL is one of few universities which offers training in that area
- Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology
- Work, Organizational and Business Psychology. In recent years that field has gained importance.
Qualification profile
The Master's degree is the second professional degree in psychology. Psychology is concerned with the mind and the behavior of people. Graduates of the Master program in Psychology have advanced scientific knowledge of psychology as well as methodological skills to solve psychological problems in different applied fields. In particular these include Clinical Child Psychology, Clinical and Health Psychology, and Work, Organizational and Business Psychology. Graduates are familiar with the general principles of scientific theorizing, scientific research, and have methodological expertise in specific areas of Psychology.

- Analytical and structured thinking based on a profound scientific and social science education
- Problem orientation, problem structuring capability, and the ability to solve problems through the understanding of basic mechanisms of human thinking, problem solving and action
- Capability of reflection and power of judgment based on knowledge of opportunities, problems and limits of knowledge acquisition in scientific psychology
- Interdisciplinary thinking
- Ability for independent knowledge acquisition and independent use of scientific information resources
- Basic skills in project management
- Ability to work in a team and social skills
- Ethic awareness and responsibility for the consequences of acting in the capacity of a psychologist
Knowledge of the position of psychology within the sciences and its relations to other disciplines enables graduates to work in scientific networks with professionals from other areas.
