Institute of Automation and Control Engineering

The Institute of Automation and Control Engineering (IACE) was founded in October 2009 as an academic unit within the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering. Our scientists conduct research in the field of mechatronic systems and teach on the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in Mechatronics and the Bachelor's degree course in Electrical Engineering.

Research

Mechatronic systems rely heavily on automation and control schemes that enable system components to work together robustly by means of complex closed control loops and cross-system interactions. The Institute's aim is to develop methods that meet these demanding control tasks. To this end, basic and application-oriented research is carried out in areas such as modeling of mechatronic systems, control and regulation of non-linear and distributed parametric systems, as well as parameter and system identification. As part of this research activity, the IACE cooperates with companies and makes modern methods from science available to industry.

Teaching

The IACE is one of the core institutes for teaching students on the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in mechatronics and the Bachelor's degree course in electrical engineering. With the highest standards for itself and its students, the IACE offers education at the highest level. Small teams, modern equipment and a large number of different experimental set-ups keep students motivated and ensure an exciting practical orientation.
