Sports Medicine, Health Tourism & Leisure Sciences

With this doctoral programme, the Tyrolean Private University UMIT TIROL has broken new ground internationally. Students are given access to a network of research and practice, nationally and internationally, for the completion of their doctoral thesis.

The concept of sports medicine is understood in broad terms thematically to include, among other things, research in competitive and recreational sports as well as fitness and exercise. One focus of the thesis topics is on mountain medicine. The studies are complemented by research projects from the fields of health tourism and the recreational sciences in cooperation with the University of Innsbruck, represented by Prof. Mike Peters of the Institut für Strategisches Management, Marketing und Tourismus.
